BACKGROUND

This year, Malaysia has successfully completed the first phase of the National Biotechnology Policy, i.e., capacity building and the exhibition of basic science research in the field of biotechnology. The first phase of this policy was implemented in the 9th Malaysian Plan and this year, 2010, is the last year for the implementation. Therefore, it is important for the various National Biotechnology Division (BIOTEK) and scientific societies to join forces to showcase research findings.

My1Bio will reinforce the existing discussions and collaboration between international and national scientists, government agencies and industry. This conference will also enhance the quality of research towards a higher level, with the potential to sustain continuity in the application of biotechnology in agriculture, medicine, fisheries and services, thus improving not only the status of scientific research and outputs, but also the economy and well-being of Malaysians.

These outputs will aid the National Biotechnology Division (BIOTEK) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in the strategic planning and implementation of the 2nd phase of the 10th Malaysian Plan. Therefore, this My1Bio conference will serve as a platform and forum in the discussion and continuity of the National Biotechnology Policy and the subsequent realisation of industrial biotechnology aspirations.
